What is Nigella Sativa – The Black Seed Oil and its Benefits?

Have you ever heard of the Nigella Sativa, which is related to the Cannabis Sativa but doesn’t have the THC that Cannabis has. Until a few months ago, I myself, did not know or ever heard of N.Sativa – Black Seed Oil. So I decided to do some research, and here is what I have found!

The Benefits of Nigella Sativa – The Black Seed Oil (Black Cumin Seed Oil)

“Being human is a portal into your divinity,”
― Renae A. Sauter, An Empowered Life: Mind/Body/Spirit Empowerment

What is Black Seed Oil?
The black seed, also now as the black pepper , black caraway, black onion seeds or black cumin,  comes from a small plant called Nigella Sativa.  The flowers on the Nigella are a pale purple, blue or white in colour, are grown in the Eastern Europe, Western Asia and even in the Middle East.
The tiny black seeds of the Nigella Sativa have been used for thousands of years for home remedies, skin care, even in cookiing. beverages, baking and pickling.   The seeds give flavour to curries, bread and pickles, same way as cumin or oregano.
The Black seed oil contains thymoquinone, which is an antioxidant and an anti-inflammatory compound that has been known/ believed to have tumor-reducing agents.
The black seed oil can be ingested by capsules, oils or applied to the skin.  It also can be used in massage oils, shampoos, homemade skin-care and fragrances.

Benefits of Black Seed Oil
Benefits for Weight Loss – It has been proven, that black seed supplementation can with reduction of Body Mass (BMI).  With many studies show that when taking Black Seed supplements, there were no side effects.  Also has been shown that Black seed can help with the war on Obesity.
Skin Issues – Topical use of black seed oil strongly inhibited IMQ-induced psoriasis-like inflammation and alleviated all epidermal and dermal changes observed after IMQ application, allowing us to conclude that black seed oil can be used as an adjuvant topical therapy for treating psoriasis. Anat Rec, 2017. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Anat Rec, 301:166-174, 2018.

Benefits for Skin CareIt has been proven that Black seed oil can be beneficial for people with skin problems such as Acne, Eczema, and Psoriasis.

  • * Eczema: According to a small-scale 2013 study comparing the therapeutic benefits of N. sativawith those of prescription medications, black seed oil can reduce the severity of hand eczema.
  • * Acne: Research suggests that the antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effects of black seed oil can improve acne. In one study, 58 percent of participants rated their response to this treatment as good, while 35 percent felt their results were moderate.
  • * Psoriasis: A 2012 study on mice suggests that the oil may also have antipsoriatic benefits.

Black seed oil may also hydrate hair, soften skin, and act as a moisturizer, although there is a lack of scientific evidence to confirm these benefits.

Benefits of Black Seed Oil for both Men and Women
Antibacterial Activity
Studies show that the antibacterial effect of ground black seeds in a modified paper disc diffusion method, in which a clear inhibition of the growth of Staphyloccus aureus was observed by a concentration of 300 mg/ml with distilled water as  the control.  It was confirmed by using the positive control Azithromycin.

Sinus Issues Sinusitis is associated with inflammation and infections of the air filled cavities of sinuses.  A study was aimed to evaluate the potential efficacy of Nigella sativa Blac Seed oil to help with managing the sinusitis.
RESULTS
The results of the studies on Nigella Sativa showed it has therapeutic potential in the treatment of sinusitis with its anti-inflammatory agents.  With the use of Nigella Sativa seed oil can inhibit the inflammation of the sinuses and respiratory airways, microbial infections and ninally help the patients who are suffering from clinical symptoms of sinusitis such as corys\za, nasal congestion, headache, nec pain, earache, and toothache.  Also future clinical studies will be required to evaluate its efficacy in patients with sinusitis in the future

Anti-Parasite Studies have been proven that the effects of the Black seed oil against the liver damage induced by Schistosoma mansoni infection in mice, reduced the number of S mansoni worms in the liver, and decreased the number of ova deposited in both the liver and the intestine.

Antioxidant The antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anticancer and antibacterial activities of the shoots, roots, and seeds methanol extracts from N. sativa were studied. The three organs exhibited strong antioxidant activity.

Antidiabetic Activity In a clinical study, showed the adjuvant effect of the Nigella Sativa on various clinical and biochemical parameters of the insulin resistance syndrom were investigated.  It was found that Nigella Sativa to mb effective as an add-on therapy in patients of insulin resistance syndrome.  Therefore Nigella Sativa has a significant activity in diabetic and dislipidemic patients..

Anticancer Activity The anticancer effects of Black seed oil was investigated on breast cancer cells, it was found that the TQ exerted strong anti-proliferative effects on the breast cancer cells and when TQ was combined with doxorubicin and 5-fluorourcil, cytotoxicity was proven to be increased.  Nigella Sativa has been proven effective as traditional medicine for centuries.  The crude oil and TQ extracted from its seeds and oil are against many diseases including cancer.  Other diseases as well are cardiovascular complications, diabetes, asthma, kidney disease etc.  The Nigella Sativa is effective against cancer in blood system, lung, kidney, liver, prostate, breast, cervix, skin with much safety.  Although it is not clearly understood how the molecular mechanisms behind the anticancer role, some studies show that the TQ has antioxidant role and helps to repair the body defense system, induces apoptosis and controls Akt pathway.   Even though for centuries, it has been used for the anticancer activity, the proper scientific research with this important traditional medicine is a history of last 2 to 3 decades.  There has not been many research work and studies done with the importance of the Nigella Sativa.  but in summary of a few articles I came across, it has been summarized the actions of TQ and crude oil of Nigella Sativa against different types of cancers can be effective in helping to fight against the toxic cancerous cells.

Anti-Inflammatory The aqueous extract of N. sativa was found to possess anti-inflammatory and analgesic. (Anti-inflammatory effect of seeds and callus of Nigella sativa L. extracts on mix glial cells with regard to their thymoquinone content.

Immunomodulatory The potential immunomodulatory effects of the Nigella Sativa (Black seed oil) were investigated of splenocyte proliferation (white blood cells), macrophage (large white blood cells) function, and NK anti-tumor activity.  The results demonstrated the aqueous extract of Nigella Sativa significantly enhances, the white blood cells growth in a dose-responsive manner..

Cardiovascular Activity A benefit of the Nigella Sativa has been shown in the reduction of plaque formation, and improving cardiovascular activity.

Hair Loss This is a big bonus for men (and women) that there is a benefit of the black seed oil.  It has been proven that it helps prevent hair loss.  They often apply it but more commonly ingest the Black seed oil 2 to 3 times a day.

Gastro-Protective Black seed oil has been observed to help people with dyspepsia, which includes indigestion or heartburn.  A study that examined 70 people suffering from dyspepsia discovered that 5 ml daily helped to reduce the discomfort from these symptoms as well reduced infection from the bacteria, H. pylori.

Liver protection Treatment with black seed oil (BSO) alleviated the elevation of GSH, SDH, LDH, G-6-Pase, serum protein, NO, Na+-K+-ATPase, phospholipids levels and attenuated MDA, SOD, AST, ALT and ALP. Diminution of collagen content and improvement in liver and kidney architectures were observed.

Kidney protective Nephroprotective effect (the recovery, salvaging, reparing effect of Nerve cells) of vi the Black Seed oil, along with Vitamin C was studied against gentamicin (chemical antibiotic injection) in rabbits.  The Serum creatinine, blood urea nitrogen, and antivity were measured as indicators of nephrotoxicity for all the groups of rabbits.  It was revealed that vitamin C and Nigella Sativa oil both had a rejeuvinating and healing effect as the lowered the serum creatinine, blood urea nitrogen and antioxidant activity as comparted to the group using the chemical antibiotic – general medicine controlled group.

Heart Protective

Asthma
There was a randomized, double-blind placebo-controlled trial that demonstrated Black Seed Oil supplementation improves asthma control with a trend in pulmonary function improvement.  This was also associated with a remarkable normalization of blood eosinophilia (disease fighting white blood cells).

Neuropharmacoligical The aqueous and methanol extracts of defatted Nigella sativa (black seed oil) showed signs to possess a potent central nervous system and analgesic activities,  especially depressant action in the case of the Antioxidant properties of methanolic extracts.

Anticonvulsant Research has shown that anticonvulsant and potent antioxidant effects of curcumin and black seed oil in  reducing oxidative stress, the excitability and seizures inductions of epileptic animals, therefore improving some of the adverse effects of anti-epileptic drugs.   As well, the neuroprotective activity of curcumin and Nigella Sativa oil against oxidative stress in has been proven to be most effective with calming epileptic animals as well as children.

Take Aways
There are some of us who are sceptical with the healing properties of the black seed oils, but with more research and development, hoping more and more will learn the value of the Nigella Sativa and its effects, rather activity with the inner body.
Therefore when using the Nigella Sativa, you have multi healing agents that work with natural healing and restore your body to healthy vitality!  I also only listed about half of the studied topics on black seed oil so I encourage you to read more about it here. https://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2016/01/25/black-cumin-seed-benefits.aspx

The active phytochemicals and helpful ingredients contained in Black Seed Oil are most likely focused on the following active constituents.

* Thymoquinone

* Thymohydroquinone

* Thymol

Black seed oil contains hundreds of separate components however the 3 above appear to be the most powerful.

Potential Side Effects of Black Seed Oil As it has been proven that the Nigella Sativa – Black seed oil has many benefits to your health, it is not without its own side effects.  Some people may develop mild allergies or skin rashes to the Nigella Sativa, however no real adverse effects have been reported.  Pregnant women have been reported to have added the Black Seed oil to the regular daily supplements, but there is the side effects that high doses may affect the fetus as well the mother’s well being, as it may slow down or stop the uterus from contracting.   So it is recommended that pregnant women use lower doses during pregnancy.  Same with breast feeding to avoid use of the Black seed oil as there is not much information about the effects on yours or the child’s health.

Do you know the difference? Whether or not you plan to use, it is always better to know the full picture! Cannabis, Hemp and Nigella Sativa are not the same thing! Find out more…..

CBD and Black Seed Oils!

You’ve got to remember hemp oil is different from CBD (cannabidiol) oil. There are two sources of hemp oil: the Cannabis sativa plant in which case you’ve got full-spectrum oil and hemp seed oil, which comes from the seeds of the hemp plant or Cannabis sativa plant.

Between the two, there’s very little risk of getting a high from hemp oil as all its forms come from food-grain strains of hemp. Research shows that food grain strains of hemp contain less than 0.3 percent tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). THC is the compound that causes the high so often associated with marijuana.

Hemp oil or hempseed oil isn’t the same as CBD oil. The production of CBD oil uses the stalks, leaves and flowers of the hemp plant. These parts contain a higher concentration of CBD, which is a potentially beneficial compound in the plant.

Although the Nigella Sativia (Black Seed oil) has been around for centuries, it is not as well known as the Cannabis or Hemp Seed oils, but it is just as effective without the THC. In the article CBD – HempHerbals vs. Entourage, it is explained in more detail what the difference is!

These differences do nothing to detract from the medicinal benefits of…

Fix your Gut! Reset your Liver to Slim!

“Reset your liver to SLIM

The decline in gut health in the United States is costing people their lives due its important roles as a first line of defense, second brain, and emotional center within our bodies. Afterall, Hippocrates was right when he said, “All disease begins in the gut.”

Unfortunately, the majority of Americans are suffering with some sort of gut-related issue and are not being treated appropriately. The current medical model has previously failed to recognize the impact gut health has on the entire body’s wellbeing.

This epidemic can be reversed, however, with functional medicine principles, comprehensive diagnostic testing, and individualized care.

Did you know?
The liver is responsible for helping metabolize fat.

Optimizing your liver health can help you lose weight and meet your weight loss goals. Here are 5 tips for liver health (and weight loss)!
1. Reduce/eliminate processed foods from your diet. Pick up any frozen pizza or box of mac & cheese and look at the ingredients. If there are things you can’t pronounce, they probably aren’t great for your liver (and the rest of your body). The liver is designed to help filter natural toxins; the more foreign substances and man-made toxins you ingest, the more difficult it is for your liver to do its job. Processed foods can significantly impact liver health in a negative way. Try sticking to the outside of the grocery store (fresh fruits, vegetables, and meats). Fresh foods are usually near the perimeter of the store, while processed foods tend to be within the middle aisles.
2. Minimize stress! Stress is a fact of our modern lifestyle, and isn’t likely to go away. When you’re under stress, it can wreak havoc in your body, especially the digestive system. Stress can lead to insomnia and can cause our bodies to “burn out”. Lack of sleep, on top of making you feel bad and crave foods you might not normally crave, actually changes the way your body works. It affects your hormones, metabolism, and appetite.
3. Try to cook at home. Even eating “healthy” foods in restaurants aren’t always as healthy as they claim to be. You don’t know what sauces or ingredients they put in the dish, whether the ingredients have been processed in any way, or if contain preservatives. (Which goes back to reducing and eliminating processed foods.) When you eat food you cook yourself, you know what’s in the food and you don’t have to worry about additives or subpar ingredients.
4. Monitor meat and dairy intake. Meat can actually be extremely taxing on the liver if you consume too much. The consumption of meat and dairy produce byproducts in the body that the liver has to process, so limiting the amount you consume can help our your liver! In addition, if the meat you are consuming has been given hormones or antibiotics, your liver has to process those too. There are plenty of non-dairy substitutes that you can use when cooking to help minimize your diary intake. You don’t have to stop eating meat and dairy, just be aware of the quantity you consume.
5. Do a liver cleanse! This can help flush toxins out of your body and give your liver a helping hand. Detoxing is important to keep your body healthy and can have many benefits from better looking skin to improved mood, and it can even support weight loss. Detoxing helps flush toxins from your liver and other organs, which can help them function more efficiently. Signs that you may need to detox can include fatigue, insomnia, brain fog, rashes, acne, digestive troubles, and blood sugar imbalances.

FLAVOR & AROMA
Nigella seeds are probably one of the most confused spices. Over the years I’ve heard nigella referred to as onion seeds, black cumin, black caraway and fennel flower, among others. Let’s just simply call them nigella or kalonji (from Hindi). However you choose to name this spice, what it lacks in aroma — it has just a hint of a savory scent — it makes up for in taste. Nigella seeds have an oregano-like quality with herbaceous notes, a slight bitterness and a warm, toasted-onion flavor. I like to add them whole to salads, sauces and even soups at the last minute just before serving. They are a great replacement for sesame seeds without the sweet element.

ORIGIN Native to the Mediterranean region. Cultivated and found wild mainly in Egypt and India, but also in other parts of North Africa, western and southern Asia, Southern Europe and the Middle East

HARVEST SEASON Nigella is an annual plant with delicate blue or white flowers that bloom in July. The fruit is a large seed capsule with up to seven follicles that contain small, pear-shaped white seeds — they only turn black when exposed to air. When the fruit matures in September, the capsules are gathered before they burst and are then dried and gently crushed for the seeds to be collected.

Your Endocannabinoid System might be Struggling it’s Balance?

What are some physical signs that your endocannabinoid system might be struggling to maintain its balance?

1️⃣ You’re sensitive to pain

🌱 Endocannabinoid receptors play an important role in modulating pain and inflammation. Neurologist and cannabinoid researcher Dr. Ethan Russo suggests that many conditions characterized by a hypersensitivity to pain such as migraines, Fibromyalgia and IBS could share, at their root, a type of endocannabinoid deficiency. In an interview with Project CBD he says, “If you don’t have enough endocannabinoids you have pain where there shouldn’t be pain.”

2️⃣ You’re feeling anxious or depressed

🌱Studies show that how we feel is affected by endocannabinoid signalling. The better the ‘endocannabinoid tone’, the less anxiety and depression experienced.

3️⃣ You’re addicted to junk food

🌱 In the case of metabolic conditions like type 2 diabetes and obesity, both are associated with too much CB1 signalling. Overeating will inevitably lead to weight gain, which in itself further over-excites the endocannabinoid system. Scientists have found that increased body fat augments endocannabinoid activity, as fat cells are capable of making yet more endocannabinoids.

4️⃣ You have a chronic inflammation related illness

🌱 Almost all illnesses have at their root chronic inflammation of some kind; everything from autoimmune disease, cancer, neurodegenerative disorders like alzheimer’s and parkinson’s, and inflammatory bowel disease.

In endocannabinoid terms, it’s the CB2 receptors that are most implicated in immune system function. Found on immune cells, when activated they reduce excess inflammation. Not only that, but as a powerful antioxidant, cannabis can help protect against free radicals that have brought about the inflammation in the first place.

5️⃣ You have a difficult to treat skin condition

🌱 Scientists believe that disruption to the endocannabinoid system’s balance might bring about the development of a whole host of skin diseases including acne, allergic dermatitis, psoriasis, hair growth disorders, and even skin cancer. One way of stimulating the skin’s endocannabinoid receptors is by topically applying phytocannabinoids such as CBD or THC onto problem areas.

For many years most of us, and even most scientists, believed that cannabis sativa was the only plant able to produce constituents that can activate the endocannabinoid system. Thanks to research in the last few years, however, we now know cannabis is not the only plant that produces these life- enhancing constituents!

  • Helichrysum has been shown to contain CBGA, CBG, and other prenylated dibenzyls similar to cannabinoids in cannabis sativa.
  • Closely related to cannabis sativa, the hop vine is among dozens of plant species that produce phytocannabinoids and other compounds that interact similarly with the human endocannibinoid system.

  • Copaiba contains high levels of beta-caryophyllene (BCP), a cannabinoid that interacts directly with the CB2 receptors in our body.

  • The little black seed of Nigella sativa is mentioned in described as a panacea (cure for all problems and diseases) by the Egyptians. It is believed to have more therapeutic power and healing properties than its cousin cannabis sativa.

CBD – HEMP HERBAL OILS

Here is some information for those who are still on the fence about CBD Oils vs Entourage – THC…

Each drop of full spectrum Hemp CBD oil has all the same cannabinoids, terpenes, essential fatty acids, and vitamins & minerals present in the industrial hemp plant. Depending on the condition and what you are looking to achieve, full spectrum CBD oil can provide a greater effect than CBD isolates as all the cannabinoids work together.

It was previously believed that CBD isolates were more potent and concentrated than full spectrum CBD. This assertion was eventually debunked by a 2015 study at the Lautenberg Center for General Tumor Immunology in Jerusalem. In that study, researchers were able to prove that full spectrum CBD is capable of offering greater levels of relief, as higher doses were administered to mice. By comparison, the group that was given CBD isolate did not experience the same level of relief at higher doses.

Here are 8 Proven Benefits of CBD oil:

  1. Relieves Pain and Inflammation
Among common CBD benefits, natural pain relief tops the list for many. Evidence suggests that cannabinoids may prove useful in pain modulation by inhibiting neuronal transmission in pain pathways. A 2012 study published in the Journal of Experimental Medicinefound that CBD significantly suppressed chronic inflammatory and neuropathic pain in rodents without causing analgesic tolerance. Researchers suggest that CBD and other nonpsychoactive components of marijuana may represent a novel class of therapeutic agents for the treatment of chronic pain. (4)
According to a 2007 meta-analysis conducted in Canada, the combination of CBD and THC buccal spray was found to be effective in treating neuropathic pain in multiple sclerosis, which can be debilitating for 50 to 70 percent of MS patients. (5)
  2. Has Antipsychotic Effects
Research shows that CBD benefits include producing antipsychotic effects. It appears to have a pharmacological profile similar to that of atypical antipsychotic drugs as seen using behavioral and neurochemical techniques in animal studies. Additionally, studies show that CBD prevents human experimental psychosis and is effective in open case reports and clinical trials in patients with schizophrenia, with a remarkable safety profile. (6)

  3. Reduces Anxiety
Studies using animal models of anxiety and involving healthy volunteers clearly suggest an anxiolytic-like effect of CBD. Cannabidiol has shown to reduce anxiety in patients with social anxiety disorder and researchers suggest that it may also be effective for panic disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, social anxiety disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder. (7)
A 2011 study aimed to compare the effects of a simulation public speaking test on healthy control patients and treatment-native patients with social anxiety disorder. A total of 24 never-treated patients with social anxiety disorder were given either CBD or placebo 1.5 hours before the test. Researchers found that pretreatment with CBD significantly reduced anxiety, cognitive impairment and discomfort in their speech performance, and significantly decreased alertness in anticipation of their speech. The placebo group presented higher anxiety, cognitive impairment and discomfort. (8)

  4. Helps to Fight Cancer
Several scientific reports demonstrate that CBD benefits include possessing antiproliferative, pro-apoptotic effects that inhibit cancer cell migration, adhesion and invasion. (9) A 2006 study published in the Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics found for the first time that CBD potently and selectively inhibited the growth of different breast tumor cell lines and exhibited significantly less potency in non-cancer cells. (10)
In 2011, researchers added light on the cellular mechanism through which CBD induces cell death in breast cancer cells. They showed that CBD induced a concentration-dependent cell death of both oestrogen receptor-positive and oestrogen receptor-negative breast cancer cells. They also found that the effective concentrations of CBD in tumor cells have little effect on non-tumorigenic, mammary cells. (11)
CBD behaves as a non-toxic compound and studies show that doses of 700 milligrams per day for 6 weeks did not show any overt toxicity in humans, suggesting that it can be used for prolonged treatment. Not only does the research show that CBD benefits including being effective in fighting breast cancer cells, data also suggests that it can be used to inhibit the invasion of lung and colon cancer, plus it possesses anti-tumor properties in gliomas and has been used to treat leukemia. (12)

  5. Relieves Nausea
Cannabis has been used for centuries for the suppression of nausea and vomiting. Research has revealed that among more than 80 cannabinoid compounds found in marijuana, both the intoxicant THC and the non-intoxicant CBD helps to get rid of nausea and vomiting in animal studies. A 2012 study published in the British Journal of Pharmacology found that CBD benefits including possessing anti-nausea and antiemetic effects when it was administered to rats. (13) Researchers found that CBD acts in a diphasic manner, meaning that in low doses it suppresses toxin-induced vomiting, but in high doses it increases nausea or has no effect.

  6. May Treat Seizures and Other Neurological Disorders
A 2014 survey conducted by researchers at Stanford University was presented to parents belonging to a Facebook group dedicated to sharing information about the use of cannabidiol-enriched cannabis to treat their child’s seizures. Nineteen responses met the inclusion criteria for the study: a diagnosis of epilepsyand current use of CBD-enriched cannabis. The average number of anti-epileptic drugs tried before using CBD cannabis was 12. Sixteen (84 percent) of the 19 parents reported a reduction in their child’s seizure frequency while taking CBD cannabis. Of these, two (11 percent) reported complete seizure freedom, eight (42 percent) reported a greater than 80 percent reduction in seizure frequency, and six (32 percent) reported a 25–60 percent seizure reduction. Other beneficial effects included increased alertness, better mood and improved sleep; while side effects included drowsiness and fatigue. (14)
Later in 2014, researchers reported on preliminary results of a study involving children with treatment-resistant epilepsies in an expanded access “compassionate use program.” Patients received a purified 98 percent oil-based CBD extract called Epidiolex, which is made by GW Pharmaceuticals. After 3 months of treatment, 39 percent of the 23 patients had more than a 50 percent reduction in seizures, with a 32 percent median reduction. These preliminary results support the animal studies and survey reports that CBD may be a promising treatment for treatment-resistant epilepsy and it is generally well-tolerated in doses up to 25 milligrams per kilogram of body weight. (15)

  7. Lowers Incidence of Diabetes
A 2006 study found that CBD treatment significantly reduced the incidence of diabetes in non-obese diabetic mice from an incidence of 86 percent in non-treated mice to an incidence of 30 percent in CBD-treated mice. CBD benefits also showed a significant reduction of plasma levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines. A histological examination of the pancreatic islets of the CBD-treated mice revealed significantly reduced insulitis. (16)
In 2013, the American Journal of Medicine published a study that highlighted the impact of marijuana use on glucose, insulin and insulin resistance among U.S. adults. The study included 4,657 adult men and women from the National Health and Nutritional Examination Survey from 2005 to 2010. Of the participants, 579 were current marijuana users and 1,975 were past users. The researchers found that current marijuana use was associated with 16 percent lower fasting insulin levels. They also found significant associations between marijuana use and smaller waist circumferences, a factor connected to the onset of diabetes symptoms. (17)

  8. Promotes Cardiovascular Health
A 2013 study published in the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacologyreports that CBD protects against the vascular damage caused by a high glucose environment, inflammation or the induction of type 2 diabetes in animal models; plus, CBD proved to reduce the vascular hyperpermeability (which causes leaky gut) associated with such environments. (18)

CBD vs. THC
CBD and THC are the two main compounds in the marijuana plant and they are the only two cannabinoids that have been well characterized to date. Many strains of marijuana are known for having abundant levels of THC and high-CBD strains are less common; however, with the medical community paying more attention to the therapeutic effects of CBD, that is beginning to change.

Both compounds have important health benefits: THC has antispasmodic, analgesic, anti-tremor, anti-inflammatory, appetite stimulating and anti-emetic properties, and CBD has anti-inflammatory, anticonvulsant, antipsychotic, antioxidant, neuroprotective and immunomodulatory effects.
The clinical use of THC is often limited by its unwanted psychoactive side effects, and for this reason interest in non-psychoactive phytocannabinoids, such as CBD, has substantially increased in recent years. In fact, CBD is being used to reduce the intoxicating effects of THC, such as paranoia and memory impairment. (19)
CBD also appears to counteract the sleep-inducing effects of THC. This is what makes CBD so appealing to the medical community, as the cause of psychoactive side effects has been a major barrier in the acceptance of medical marijuana. (20) While THC is known to cause anxiety and paranoia in some people, CBD works to counteract those side effects. For this reason, CBD benefits extend to being used in clinical trials on young children with epilepsy.
Another major difference between THC and CBD is that marijuana with high levels of THC is commonly used for its sleep-inducing effects, while CBD appears to promote wakefulness instead. (21) which is odd as many people react to CBD as a sleep aid.

Entourage: THC Free Alternative

Activate your canniboids!

ENTOURAGE | full spectrum phytocannabinoids & therapeutic terpenes | THC free
